NewsWIM Alena Mrvová — Queen Masters 2026, Chess Slovak Open, Skalica

Chess Slovak Open® 2026 introduces another player of the closed women’s Queen Masters tournament. This time a local one — WIM Alena Mrvová of the Skalica chess club, who will compete in front of her home crowd.

A local stalwart and multiple Slovak champion

Alena Mrvová (born 22 February 1978) is a multiple Slovak champion — most recently taking gold at the 2026 Slovak Blitz Championship in Prešov. She earned the Woman International Master (WIM) title in 2010, the year her rating peaked at a career-best 2298.

An international with a rich career

Mrvová is among Slovakia’s most experienced players. As a junior she won bronze at the European Youth Championship U18 (1996, Rimavská Sobota), and in 1999 she shared in gold at the European Women’s Team Championship (Batumi). She has represented Slovakia at eight Chess Olympiads (1996–2024). Her current rating is 2136.

Queen Masters 2026 in Skalica

The Queen Masters 2026 is a closed, invitational women’s round-robin within the Chess Slovak Open® 2026 festival, categorised for WIM norms. The festival takes place 22–30 August 2026 at the House of Culture in Skalica.
