What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymised string created from your e-mail address (hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check whether you are using it (more info: https://automattic.com/privacy/). After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public together with your comment.
Media
When uploading images, we recommend avoiding images with embedded EXIF GPS location data, as visitors to the website can download and extract such location data.
Contact and registration forms
When you fill in a registration form for an event, we process the following personal data:
- First name and surname
- E-mail address
- Chess club/organisation
- FIDE ID (or another chess ID)
- Date of birth / year of birth (if included in the form)
- Phone number (if included in the form)
- Category/age/nationality (if part of the form)
- Note (optional field)
- Other data entered in the form (e.g. accompanying persons, special requests)
We collect the data for the purpose of:
- processing and recording the registration for the tournament/event,
- communication regarding the registration, results or organisational instructions,
- keeping statistics and overviews of participants,
- fulfilling legal obligations.
Registration opening notice (“Notify me” form)
If you fill in the “Notify me” form on the registration page, we process your e-mail address, optionally your country and the tournament you are interested in, and the language of the form. We do not collect your name or any other data.
- Purpose: solely to notify you when registration for Chess Slovak Open® 2027 opens.
- Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give by ticking the box in the form.
- Retention period: until the purpose is fulfilled, at the latest until 31 August 2027.
- Withdrawal of consent: at any time by e-mail to info@chessslovakopen.sk. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before it was withdrawn.

We use cookies to improve the user experience (see the Cookies section below).
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this website may include embedded content (videos, images, etc.), which behaves in the same way as if you had visited the other website (i.e. it may collect data about you, use cookies, track your interaction, etc.).

We may share your data only:

All partners are bound by a personal data processing agreement.
How long we retain your data
- Data from contact/registration forms and from participation in the tournament are retained for the duration of the event concerned and for a further 5 years, or in accordance with the statutory period.
- Comments and their metadata are stored separately.
- Analytics data are retained according to the settings of the particular service.
What rights you have over your data
You have the right to:
- request an export of the personal data we process about you,
- request their correction or erasure (unless prevented by a legal obligation),
- restrict or object to the processing of your data,
- withdraw your consent to the processing of data for marketing purposes.

Consent to processing for marketing
If you give your consent to the processing of personal data for marketing purposes, we will process your data (name, e-mail, club and possibly other data from the form):
- for the purpose of sending information about further chess events, activities and partner offers,
- on the basis of segmentation/personalisation of offers.
Consent is voluntary and you may withdraw it at any time at info@chessslovakopen.sk.
Who may have access to your data
- Internal staff and authorised persons of the organiser,
- Contractual processors on the basis of an agreement,
- Competent authorities in accordance with the law.

You can withdraw your consent in writing or by e-mail at info@chessslovakopen.sk. Withdrawal is free of charge and takes effect immediately; you will no longer receive any further marketing messages.
